Every business should be using social media to promote their business, as it can be extremely lucrative if you know how to make the most of it. You need to remember that social media is not a short term commitment, it takes time and a long term commitment as well as realistic goals in mind to succeed.
Complete Your Profiles
Completely fill out your profiles, using keywords that your audience as well as search engines would most likely use to find you. Show your personality, link to your online real estate, and make sure people can connect with you easily. It’s also a good idea to ensure all of your profiles on all of your social media accounts follow a similar theme so that people can recognize you, easily on each of them.
Post Quality Content
Get known for posting quality content, so take your time to consider whether the content you are thinking of posting is relevant, has quality components and will give your audience a reason to want to keep following you. By doing this, consistently your audience will grow and will look forward to all of your posts.
Play the Long Game
Social media marketing results don’t happen overnight. It takes time, months normally of consistent and focussed activity to start to get the outcomes that you want. If you expect instant results, you’re going to be disappointed, so understand that it takes time but the rewards are well worth it.
Use the search function on all social media networks to find movers and shakers within your industry so that you can engage with them. Getting their attention in a good way will help increase your influence too. In fact if you want to be seen as an influencer in your own right simply interview other influencers, by doing so they will help promote their own interviews that you carried out, and as such they will promote you and simply by being associated with them your own influence increases.
Avoid Time Wasting
When you get on social media it’s very tempting to start looking at posts after all many of them are interesting, talk to your friends and family, play online games, and pretend you’re working. This is time wasting, and lots of business people waste a lot of time, do what you have to do on social media, take ten minutes for yourself and then get off and get on with your day… otherwise you’ll spend hours doing nothing.
What Goes Around Comes Around
If you want people to comment and share your information, be sure that you do the same for them. The best course of action is if someone markets to your same audience but is not direct competition, try working together to promote each other.
Pay for Promotion
When you are trying to get a more likes, followers or newsletter sign-ups, if you have the budget it’s a good idea to pay for promotion. On Facebook you can pay to promote particular posts, or run a pay-per-click ad relatively inexpensively.
Add Real Value
Don’t just like and tweet things without adding something to the conversation, the more value you can add to social media discussions, the more people will want to get to know you and follow, friend and like you, oh and never be afraid to share your opinion, it’s what makes you unique.
Using social media to promote your business is a great way to get more visitors to your website and make more sales, I know I generate in excess of five thousand new visitors each and every month. But, you have to be committed to your audience, give them what they want and take the time to do what it takes to reach your goals. Avoid pretending to “work” on social media while you’re really just socializing, I see this way too often. Set specific realistic goals, develop tactics to reach these goals, and you will be successful.
