If you are like me, you’ve heard this time and time again.

It seems that everyone nowadays is some form of marketing guru, just judging by the number of emails and messages you get, don’t you agree?

Well I’m not someone that professes to have sold millions of dollars’ worth of products online in an effort, to sell you the latest and greatest marketing scheme… I’m actually someone that started out in the eighties estimating window and curtain walling projects in the UK. I was good at it, helped with sales and conversions and low and behold I ended up running estimating, sales and technical departments for companies working on multi-million dollars projects… in fact the largest project I ever quoted was in excess of one hundred million US Dollars…

Why am I telling you this? Simply to show that I’ve worked in the real world, not just this Internet world… which I came to in the mid-nineties on a full-time basis and have been working in, ever since. In fact, in those days you had to pay per minute for telephone usage and you ended up trying to educate clients on what the Internet was. Fast forward to today and I’m still doing this Internet stuff, I draw constantly upon the business experience of my first career and I’ve never lost my love of sales. In fact, sales has not really changed, all that has is the jargon people use seems to get reinvented into the latest and greatest, in an effort to fool people into thinking people are selling something new.

Well I’m not, some of the prospecting tools I use are new admittedly, but the basics are still the same, in that you need to understand your prospective customers, exaggerate their pain or pleasure points and how well your products or services solve these issues. You see people still tend to purchase either to solve a problem or for pleasure, that hasn’t changed, nor has the fact that once you show people how well you meet their needs and have gained their trust you’ll end up closing sales.

Remember the saying always be closing and anyone that comes within such and such a distance is a prospect… well the same is still true except that in the online world we use sales funnels and automated closing techniques, it’s simply the tools that are different rather then the fundamental techniques of sales in an online world.

About Me

I've been designing and marketing websites and businesses for over 24 years and prior to this I worked in sales, marketing and big business for almost 18 years... which makes me not only old, but also highly experienced at this marketing and Internet stuff.  I've won lots of awards and helped thousands of people, and this website is a testament to the information I share freely to help others succeed online.

When I'm not designing websites, doing this online marketing stuff or writing. I love nothing more than getting out on a weekend and scuba diving. I'm a qualified rescue diver and love getting wet in the waters around Perth and Rottenest Island. I also cycle, which must be a sight as I'm not the thinnest of people (lol)... and a paddle on a kayak or a swim helps makes most weeks, perfect. At home I have a marine reef tank, which I just love and on top of that I've an awesome dog, called Ziggy.
