Do you have an online marketing plan or are you just guessing and shooting in the dark? You might even be a trend follower, in that you hear such and such works, and hey presto you’re off doing it. You have no plan about what content you will create, products to promote, or any of the information they you need to jump ahead of the pack and become that trend setter that others try to emulate, as your business becomes successful online.
If you want to change things and get ahead online, you can use data and information to stop guessing and know what works and what doesn’t, so that you can concentrate more on doing what works and less on what doesn’t.
I’ve been doing this online marketing stuff for twenty one years now, and I and many others have figured out how things work and this means that there is no need for you to reinvent the wheel. You can follow what other successful online entrepreneurs have done, plus as an added bonus you can learn about the tools and metrics you need to know to determine if what you are doing is actually working.
Understand Your Audience
If you cannot answer the question who is your audience and who do you want to work with? How will you ever connect with them, let alone engage with them. The vast majority of people think the product or service comes first, but it’s an awful lot better if you select who your audience is first and then select your products and services to fit the needs of this audience as you’ll enjoy more success with your online marketing.
If you focus on solving the problems and worries of your audience, you will make better more audience focused products and services that they will really want. This approach works better than making a product and then trying to find the audience that wants it.
Promote Your Products
Once you have a product or service that your audience needs, it’s time to get into gear and start to promote your product to your audience. You can use sales pages, social media, blog posts, pay-per-click advertising and much more to reach your audience.
The best way to build traffic is through content marketing with good SEO, as this will enable you to dominate the search engines even if you only work locally. Select a couple social media platforms to become really active on, incorporate some form of email list and you’re well on your way to generating lots of traffic to your website. This is exactly the approach I use to build traffic and it really does work, however it’s not a short term strategy, for short term growth you need to spend dollars advertising to a highly focused target audience.
Unless you have lots and I do mean lots of money to waste on advertising, then slow and steady wins the race when it comes to online business marketing. You don’t have to blog seven days a week like I do, although the benefits are tremendous, you can blog two or three time per week and gain some benefit. Promote your content on social media daily and engage your audience and participate in their conversations.
Test, Test, and Test
Never assume something is working, test it to see if it does. Use different types of content, landing pages, images, and information to bring in traffic and to find out what works best for you and your audience.
Look at your Numbers
The facts don’t lie and neither does data. It doesn’t matter how much effort or energy you put into writing a blog post or how much you and your family like it, if it doesn’t connect with your audience or if they can’t find it. The only things that matter in the world of online marketing are the activities that engage your audience and that generate results.
Perfect and Repeat for Online Marketing Success
As you look at your data, you can see what isn’t working and often correct it and make things that are working work even better. All you have to do then is more of what works best and less of what isn’t, rinse and repeat for every single marketing campaign that you do, because with time you will get lots better.
You will find that it takes time to understand how everything works together and you should not try to do it all on your own, without some guidance. Find someone you respect that has built their online business from the bottom up, and reach out and connect and follow their methodology. People like me have been marketing online for decades now and nothing is ever left to chance, especially with the amount of data around that clearly demonstrates the tactics business should adopt in their own online marketing campaigns.
