Building authority or expertize in the eyes of your audience is important for any business owner or person who wants to promote their business, products and services. When your audience views you as an expert in your niche, they are much more likely to trust you and want to hear more about what you’re saying about a variety of topics. Eventually this will almost mean that more of your audience will buy from you, because they trust you and see you as the go to expert.

Here are eight ways to build your expertise in your audiences’ eyes.

Get a Blog and Blog Often

Blogging is perhaps the best and easiest way to get the word out about your business and what it does. By blogging regularly you will attract and audience and even if you don’t start off as an expert, regular blogging will make you into a real expert as you learn more and more about your niche so that you can write about it on your blog.

You will attract an audience to you and they will help spread the word, social media will buzz about you and your audience will come to know you as an expert. However even when you move up in the world you should continue to blog. Once established if you are time poor you can still keep blogging at least weekly. But try to create longer content that is more authoritative in nature, providing a lot of in-depth information to your audience.

Although I have to be honest here and say that if I can blog daily, and if it helps make you an expert, perhaps you employ someone to do something else so that you can continue to blog, to build your audience and to further enhance your audiences perception of you.

Study Your Niche

Everything is constantly changing as more and more people add to the knowledge we all share with one another, this means that what worked in business twenty years ago has now more than likely been improved and there are new, better ways of doing it. This means that everyone in business needs to be continually learning.

What was true just a month or so back might not be true today. Never be afraid to change your opinions and ideas based on the information you learn, as this demonstrates that you are evolving and becoming more of an expert. To stay relevant in your niche you have to stay connected enough to understand what’s new, what’s changed. As mentioned, it also helps your content marketing (blogging) activities.

Start a Meetup Group

Hosting in person events is a great way to establish and build your expertise and with the popularity of meetup.com it’s now easier than ever to start your own group. You’ll end up a a solid fan base that knows your secrets and understands how you tick. They’ll become promoters of your work, and in the process you’ll earn some extra income.

A group also is a great source of information and ideas about your audience, their problems and how your products and services help solve these issues. I personally run three groups and attend a few more, and I am always getting ideas for articles and it even helps with my own understanding as I find that sometimes I am a little too close to my business and niche to see what someone on the outside can see, easily. Again this helps with all aspects of content marketing and it sure does help your local standing as the go to expert.

Becoming an expert in your niche is an important way to boost your value and increase your income. Plus, if you know a lot about a topic, you should be proud to become a noted expert in your field after all the study and effort you’ve put into it, and continue to put it.
