You have no doubt heard that content marketing is all about creating great content that attracts and engages your audience. For the most part this is true, however simply publishing content these days isn’t enough, and there is no such thing as “build it and they will come” not if you want to maximize your results. If you want to have a successful blog you’re going to have to spend time promoting each piece of content that you create.

There are several ways to promote blog posts and for best results, be sure to try all of them.

Write the Best Blog Posts You Can

When the content you create is the best you can make it, you’re going to be much more likely to want to promote it. Work on each blog post to make it awesome. These days, in-depth authoritative content is more important and “Google worthy” than shorter “keyword rich” blog posts.

Utilize SEO

While the actual content that you create and the engagement it generates with your audience is the most important part of any blog post, you should still concern yourself with using search engine optimization keywords properly and naturally. Do keyword research occasionally to find out which keywords you should be using and remember to look for low competition keywords as these are easier to get better rankings for.

Include Relevant Images

They say an image is worth 1000 words, and that’s likely an understatement in my opinion. Therefore, include relevant images in your blog posts that help advance your meaning and the purpose of your blog as these will aid audience engagement.

Build Relationships

Believe it or not, the most important part of running a blog is to build relationships with your audience. Ask questions at the end of each blog post, give them something fun to do, ask them to share something with you, or conduct a poll and carry the conversation forward onto social media with your audience.

Build an Email List

One of the best and most effective forms of marketing is email marketing, and every bloggers should build an email list. When you have an email list it’s a good way to inform regular readers about your new blog posts, promotions and events.

Be Courteous

A really good way to promote your blog posts is to promote other people’s blog posts. When you share other people’s content, they will notice, even influencers in your industry and eventually they will return the favor and share your posts too.

Use Social Media

Every single blog post should be promoted on social media, the exact social media channels depend on where your target audience hang out, and your own preferences. I’m a massive fan of Twitter and I believe every single person should be active on this platform as it delivers real results.

Create varied blurbs introducing your new blog post for different your different social media accounts to help them click through to read the blog post. A good way to do that is not to finish your sentence in the blurb; instead put dots to get them to read more.

You should also encourage your audience to promote your content on their own social media channels and the best way to do this is to include social media share buttons within your blog and to ask your audience to share your content.

Know Your Audience

This may sound like old news as every marketer mentions target audience, but it’s very important that you know your target audience, including where they hang out, what they like to do, and when. That way you’ll know where to promote your posts for maximum impact with your audience.

If you’re not proud of the content that you’re creating, ask yourself why would anyone want to read it and share it? Share it first, yourself. Tell everyone about it. Be proud of the blog posts that you create and publish so that you want to share them with everyone, and you’ll be a successful blogger.
