Blogging is an awesome way to promote your business, to earn money, or to just have somewhere to discuss and share your passion. One of the most important things you can create to keep your blogging on track is to create a blog publication calendar. A blog publication calendar will take into consideration all important upcoming events, product launches, and other issues, helping you work ahead of schedule to keep your blog full of interesting and relevant content.

Successful bloggers have three things in common:

  1. They post blog posts regularly and to a schedule
  2. They post unique relevant content
  3. They post audience focused content

If you do these three things, you can have a successful blog. You can have a blog that attracts an audience to you, who want to read what you have to say and take your advice, and who eventually comes back for more and more on a regular basis.

In order to create a blog publication calendar, you need to first make a few determinations such as:

How Often You Will You Post New Blog Content

The first thing you need to work out is how often do you plan to publish new content? Bear in mind that once you select a schedule you need to stick to it as your audience will learn to expect new content in accordance with your schedule. This could be daily, weekly or whatever it is you choose. This helps you know how often you’ll need to write blog posts, and when you’ll need to publish them or schedule them.

Who Are You Blogging For

You cannot hope to really connect with an audience and help solve their problems if you don’t know who they are and what problems, issues and concerns they have. Try to work out a few different audience / buyer personas, as these can ensure you create better more focused content.

Which Blogging Categories You’ll Use

Depending upon your specific niche, you’ll need to work out some categories that a post will go under when you blog. Spreading out these categories in easy to understand sections, can help you come up with more interesting content. For example, if you have a blog about German Sheppard Dogs, some categories might be Rescued Dogs, Feeding, Exercising, Training, Working Dogs and so forth.

Upcoming Events, Product Promotions and Product Launches

On the calendar you may want to list any upcoming events related to your niche. For example, is there a trade conference coming up, or are you launching a new product that is perfect for your niche? Keeping abreast of these dates will help you create content that will entice your audience to buy the items when launched.

When Industry News Is Released

You’ll want to abreast of industry news, too, so it will help you to know when the different online magazines or blogs release new information for you review and use. For example, if the economic data of your industry is released every quarter, keep that in mind as you create the publication calendar so you can include important information within the content you create.

Once you have worked out all of this information, you can start brainstorming content ideas to match upcoming events, product launches, special promotions and industry news. In between those types of blog posts, you can publish other types of posts up such as educational, informational, how-to, interesting and entertaining. List all of these ideas in the calendar so that you can then use the calendar to generate a list of timely titles and subject matter for your blog posts.
