With the arrival of fast broadband technology the way people work and the workforce has changed and continues to change. People have been outsourcing to virtual assistants since the 1980’s but at this time, a contractor had to go into a customer’s office to get the information they needed to take to their offices to get the work completed. Now, a virtual assistant can live anyplace where they have reasonable access to the internet.

Once the Internet became a viable and secure way to do business, companies first started outsourcing work to call centers in countries such as India, I can still remember the uproar when publically listed companies started doing this to cut costs, can you? When the Internet became commonplace with consumers, entrepreneurs at home started to realize that they could do the work of many of the large outsourcing companies, just on a smaller scale for fewer clients.

This allowed many small business owners to hire specialist talent that they could never have afforded to hire prior to this, the time of the Virtual Assistant had arrived. Nowadays virtual assistants can be based both locally and internationally as companies hire for talent and price… thus getting the best of everything.

No Need for Fully Equipped Offices

A virtual assistant is a business owner who owns all the tools needed to do the work for you that you need completed. You do not need to provide the tools, and you shouldn’t, they are their own business owner and should have the tools they need.

No Need to Pay for Benefits

When you contract with a virtual assistant, they are completely independent contractors who pay for their own benefits and taxes. The money you pay the virtual assistant indirectly covers those expenses. It works by saving you money because you only pay for the work you actually have completed, you don’t pay for dead time.

No Need to Train Someone

You do not have to train your virtual assistant on the tasks you want completed. You may need to show them how you like your work to look when it’s finished, or any particular preferences you have, but you shouldn’t have to train them on what tools to use or how to use them. They should know how to do this already and if they don’t, you’re working with the wrong virtual assistant.

No Full-Time Costs for Part-Time Work

People still think they have to hire someone full time, in their office, to get the best work done. But the truth is, there are lots of times in the day where a receptionist is just sitting there, doing nothing. If you can pay them only part time for exactly the amount of time you need them, then you can afford to hire more experts, it’s that simple.

Expand and Contract Your Business As Needed

With virtual assistants you only pay for and hire people to do work exactly when you need it done. This means you can easily take on extra work when you get offered it, and get your virtual assistants to help out with the parts they can do.

Look like a Big Business to the World

It used to be almost impossible for a small self-employed freelancers to make a big enough dent to make a good living working for themselves, without practically killing themselves with the workload. Now you can look big by being able to bring on more outsourcers when and as needed.

Find Very Specific Expertise When You Need It

Virtual assistants have a variety of experiences and skills that fall into many categories from design, to management, to organizing and planning, to technical and more. Find the right help when you need it, instead of having to keep people on your payroll when you don’t need them.

Get a Proactive Partner in Your Business

Many virtual assistants specialize in being a business partner who are very proactive in helping you run, manage and build your business going forward. Look for an “online business manager” or “online marketing manager” or other specialties to help you run your business.

Virtual assistants understand how important it is to deliver good work to you, because ultimately your success is very dependent upon their success. Virtual assistants work hard to train themselves to do the tasks that are needed and in demand so that you don’t have to train them. You simply hire the expertize you need for your projects. Virtual assistants can be brought on long term or on a project-by-project basis, that’s the beauty its completely flexible to suit your needs.

About Me

I've been designing and marketing websites and businesses for over 24 years and prior to this I worked in sales, marketing and big business for almost 18 years... which makes me not only old, but also highly experienced at this marketing and Internet stuff.  I've won lots of awards and helped thousands of people, and this website is a testament to the information I share freely to help others succeed online.

When I'm not designing websites, doing this online marketing stuff or writing. I love nothing more than getting out on a weekend and scuba diving. I'm a qualified rescue diver and love getting wet in the waters around Perth and Rottenest Island. I also cycle, which must be a sight as I'm not the thinnest of people (lol)... and a paddle on a kayak or a swim helps makes most weeks, perfect. At home I have a marine reef tank, which I just love and on top of that I've an awesome dog, called Ziggy.
